Hi Val not sure about operational best practice, but if you go to the HSE website you can look for HSG 76 'Warehousing and Storage: a guide to health and safety' (free to download) 'Fire safety risk assessment: Factories and Warehouses' is another HSE publication available, but I believe that you have to pay for that. good luck Martin

Val As well as the publications Martin has recommended I would also get HSG 136 Workplace transport safety, HSG6 Safety in working with Lift trucks and L117 Rider- operated lift trucks: Operator training as they cover issues relevant to most warehouse operations. These should also be available as pdf downloads on the HSE books site. Brian

Val The second document referred to by Martin can also be downloaded, from here: http://www.communities.g...ons/fire/firesafetyrisk3 It is a government rather than an HSE publication. LB

Val, I can support the post above; the HSE publication (HSG76) is a valuable place to find general information. It was written with significant input from my committee (Warehouse Safety Forum) which is now part of the IOSH Retail & Distribution Group. It provides a sound overview of good practices in warehousing. If you are not alreay a member of the R&D Group you might find it useful. We did a number of warehouse related events last year and no doubt will have more later this year. You might also consider the UK Warehousing Association. regards Steve
