I have done a search on this but cannot find what I am looking for. Can anyone guide me to any specific requirement to check employee insurance, licence etc, for use of own vehicle at work? Ta

I'm almost certain that the reason you can't find it is that there isn't one - this is just good practice and recommended by RoSPA etc, isn't it?

HSWA and Management Regs as a starting point by description should suffice. No it does not say per se, but managing road risk to an employee while driving at work is part of the process and I suspect you would not be happy for said employee to be driving without the correct level of insurance cover, licence, MOT etc. The UK Road Traffic Acts also have many provisions, and of course one being a licence and relevant insurance. You are just following a correct procedure with this in mind to ensure employees are qualified and insured to drive and that their vehicle is roadworthy. Out of interest what made you title the thread with the CMA? Not arguing that it could come into play, but I cannot see the connection between title and question. See what others say. CFT

Have a look at this guidance document if you haven't already. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg382.pdf

Thank you for the responses folks, much appreciated and much as I had thought. My query was phrased as it came to me from AN Other. I have got the document referred to plus HS (G) 136. Thanks again, Ciao.

In addition to the HSE guidance mentioned, there are various other publications from articles from RoSPA, Brake, Fleet news etc, some slightly more objective than others. I don't think that there is a specific requirement to check, but would say that there is an implied requirement, and it is an entirely reasonable and responsible thing for an employer to do.
