Hi,
I'm not sure if there is a set course for this subject. I work for a training provider and we have provided this type of course previously, but have made them bespoke for the client. Typical contents would be an introduction to the H&S legal framework to set the scene, perhaps taking in the six pack if the reps are required to do any form of assessments, then concentrate on the Consultation with Employee regulations, reference to the Safety reps and safety committee regulations (to compare roles with trade union reps) and then using the client's paperwork / procedures etc to define roles and responsibilities for the non union reps / committee members. If the reps are to be involved in accident investigation this can be added in to the session. Talk to your local providers about your requirements and see what they come back with - or email me and I'll provide some more information on what we can do.
Regards,
Mike

Hi,
The nature of the course should be dependant on the nature of risk. As a teacher for a local college I tought CIEH foundation cert to safety reps from various low to medium risk enterprises.
Inside the business I teach our safety reps to the same level as the branch manager purely so that there is an equal level of understanding and knowledge.
The one thing I have focused on is what needs to be done within our particular business rather than what needs to be acheived generally. In Short;
Check that fire exit isn't blocked at the beginning of every day as opposed to ensure MoE are available at all material times.
(clipped example and I do back it up, I was just trying to give the impression)
McGann, What's the nature of the business?

Have a look at this www.hse.gov.uk/doyourbit
Aimed specifically at non unionised organisations and fairly cheap as well.
