Has anyone any knowledge of Vibration White Finger (VWF) being specifically caused by fork truck usage. I am aware of the potential for whole body vibration issues, but VWF specifically resulting from normal FLT usage is a first for me.

Any thoughts or comments welcomed.

Thank you.

I would be extremely worried if the controls of a FLT caused as much vibration as a hand held tool.
has the injuried party used any such tools in a previous existance and had their symptoms worsened by the recent cold weather?

I have heard similar questions from FLT drivers but never found any written evidence that HAVS is caused from mobile plant / FLTs. As you have already said, there is evidence for whole body vibration.

If you believe that there is a risk that vibration levels are such that operators are at risk of HAVS/ VWF then arrange for some simple vibration measurements to be taken and establish the level of exposure.

Hi
Have heard of HAV in car/truck drivers, rally drivers from the steering wheel and motorcyclists from the handlebars but not specifically fork lift drivers.

Have assessed many FLT's for HAV/WBV and in most cases they were under the EAV and nowhere near the ELV. Problems may arise if there is excess vibration when idling on diesel trucks however, Electric FLTs are extremely smooth. The only time I have had results that have been high were for measurement of the Vibration Dose Value (not a legal requirement) but this was due to poor surfacing and the vehicle been driven too fast for the conditions.

Not saying it's not possible to get HAVS from FLTs, as some people will be more susceptible than others, just unlikely from what I have seen...
