Hi Safety Folk I am in the process of updating and reproducing warning signage for each of the products in our warehouse which have an effect on health if spilled (Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals). I note that the new GHS symbols are now appearing, how long before these take over and become the norm? Currently all COSHH signage uses the old orange squares, I am unsure if I should produce the signs in the old orange symbol or the new red edged diamond, I do not want to confuse the staff. Any thoughts would be useful. Mike

Mike, I just had a quick search on the internet and found a very useful explanation at http://www.labnews.co.uk...353/5/a-symbol-of-change There is also some info on the HSE at http://www.hse.gov.uk/ghs/implications.htm It seems that there will be a fairly long transition for chemicals already purchased, but I imagine that stuff being sold will change more quickly martin

The new pictograms actually came into effect from 21st January 2009.The last I looked into the proposals the implementation dates were 1st Dec 2010 for pure chemical substances and 1st June 2015 for mixtures of chemical substance. I'm not sure if these dates have been amended/updated since I last looked around 6 months ago. The site I found most useful was http://www.unece.org/tra...ghs_rev03/03files_e.html
