Hi Learned Friends,
Just a quick one really regarding Emergency Lighting, When i was consulting I was always led to believe the following applied in the interpretation of the Emergency Lighting BS.
Daily – all maintained lights should be operational. Any faults should be recorded in a logbook and the action taken should be noted.
Monthly – all lights and internally illuminated exit signs should be energised by simulating a mains failure to ensure that they operate correctly. The period of simulated failure should not exceed one quarter of the rated duration of the batteries.
Six monthly – as well as the normal monthly test, the condition of self contained batteries and central batteries should be checked by energising the lights for a period of one hour for batteries with a capacity of three hours, or for a period of fifteen minutes if the system batteries are rated for a duration of one hour.
Three yearly – the entire installation should be checked to ensure compliance with the design code.
Self contained batteries and central batteries should be checked by testing the lights for the full rated duration.
So basically the Six Monthly etc should be completed by a competent person. Is this how others view it because sme factions seem to be informing me that Yearly is adequate for the competent person to do his checks.
I am interested to hear how many other do six monthly or Yearly in their business.
Kind Regards Alan

Hi Spud
I totally agree with you.
We have a competant person who tests monthly and 6 monthly, he keeps a record of any issues. If we notice any problems we let him know and he carries out the repairs. Then an independant company check every third year. We have records for this too.
All the best. Emsie
