Presenting weekly / monthly safety briefings to a business can become a chore (please excuse the phrasing). Thinking of subject matter that reflects significant issues within a business can run out of steam after several weeks, not to mention covering 52 weekly bulletins throughout the year.

My question here would be, does anyone know the whereabouts of a safety bulletin library?

Regards,

Chris

If the idea is to communicate safety and health related issues then I tend to use either the HSE campaigns, changes to legislation or live issues in the workplace. Keep the message punchy though or you'll lose your audience. I think one a week may be too many and a turn-off

Thanks for the advice.

To keep the focus on HS&E we have a monthly safety brief and a weekly magazine where we include HS&E. I would like to stay in that weekly magazine with varying subjects as I dont want the operation to lose focus. Think I was just looking for some prompts.

Regards,

Chris

I used to have to produce a weekly bulletin and was never short of material - they are much better if they are personal to the organisation and link to real experiences and company procedures, I would always back them up with a real picture from the site as well.

I used to use
Recent incidents - as this highlights a deficiency
HSE statistics - i.e. Recognise No of days no lost time etc / common incidndet types.
Seasonal matters - i.e. sun burn, ice
details about a specific safety procedure
legislation - i.e. Manual handling regs / WAH (HSE provide lots of info)
HSE campaigns as mentions above

As our system was behavioural we also included the occasional health bulletin with help from our nurse, healthy living, seasonal bugs (swine flu), safe sex, etc

if in doubt I would pick one people had forgotten about and reuse it!

What are your organisation's top 3 risks? Concentrate on each of these in the 1st 3 weeks and then add seasonal or topical ones on the 4th or 5th weeks. Success stories may be better received than constant "failurers" or moans and personal contributions from those who are the audience may also assist.

Hi,
I get a regular e-mail update from the following site, free of charge and have been doing so for the last several years. It has always given me great ideas to maintain an interest in H&S, for training, for meetings, fliers etc. It is american but none the less for that.

Have you thought about getting feedback / consultation with the employees and identifying areas of safety there.

At least of gives you the opportunity to see issues "from the floor" and close off any concerns by feeding them back via briefings, training etc.

regards

Matty
