Hi, I work for a local housing association and we are looking to do some benchmarking against other housing associations with regards to accident rates. If anyone out there is willing to share their stats with us I would be more than willing to reciprocate. Confidentiality will be honoured if requested. Thanks if anyone can help.

I do not work for a Housing Association or RSL etc but am often asked to 'benchmark' using accident stats/accident rates. I have never been all that convinced that this is a particularly useful benchmark, as it has always seemed to me that the comparision is generally of an outcome, which could have been significantly diffrent but for a minor change of circumstances, and the comparison of often one of 'apples and pears'. Even benchmarking on RIDDOR reportable incidents sufefrs much the same problem, I had an over 3 day injury, in which the individual was off for many months and was subsequently 'retired' on medical grounds. Sorry, Iam conscious that I am rambling a bit. I know many people do benchmark in this way, just not convinced that it is really all that useful other than to satisfy someone (auditors?) that we are benchmarking something.

Thanks for the comment, and I don't disagree, but I have been asked to try and find this information, and so I hope someone out there can help me.

Leah, I no longer work in the sector so my information isn't up to date, but a number of housing associations have been involved in regional "housing health and safety forums" - networks of H&S people in housing associations sharing information, including accident benchmarking. See if you can find one near you and join it, I predict you will find it helpful in many ways as well as answering your current question. Kate
