Hi all, Looking for some information for working near a railway line. If anyone had a sample risk assessment or safe system of work they could send me it would great. We have a new fence to install 4m from the track however we have an old fence to move 2m from the track so Rail company say we are on thier track. The track is used for emergency need only so low risk as far as i am concerned but not the rail company. Any Help would be good.

you must adhere to the rail company terms etc I would suggest asking them for their operating conditions etc so as you can proceed and address the HSE web site for further info; additionally as its a specialist area you may need your staff / contractor to be trained to their standards Whilst there may even be a disput re land ownership you will be on their land to complete their side of your fence so you will not legally get around having to comply to their standards the same as where pylons pass over your land and gas mains travel under your land you must adhere to the utilities systems etc

If you are working within 3 metres of a railway line then you are deemed to be railside and therefore need a pts (personell track safety card ) you will also need to have a coss present (controller of site safety )these are the regs set out by network rail.
