Hi Folks,
just wondering if anybody on iosh has experience or knowledge of working in H&S outside of Ireland/UK.
I have my Diploma, most of my experience is in the construction industry; Civils, road building, commerical, housing and industrial. I have worked as an auditor for a large insurance provider, auditing the systems of its clients.
I love to travel, and have seen quite a bit of the world. I would love to work abroad in my profession, but dont know how and where to look. (Apart from the obvious Middle East etc)
I am a single man, so can easily move. I speak only one language, but I am learning spanish and obviously would learn the local language if I was to move.
Just would love to hear other peoples knowledge and experience, I have a particular want for the Scandinavia countries, Germany, Spain and Italy. (Quite abroad range).
any web sites, knowledge or anything, please let me know.

Try Holland first
Great people, speak English and they like us and the culture is very similar - you can go on a Monday and try your hand cold calling at the various sites in the capital and start making your contacts - getting news papers on line should be easy
The sites are still visitor friendly [reasonably good to get onto without unecessary passes etc] and there's still lots of work going on - They also pay the English well as against many countries

Have you considered the oil and gas industry ? Dont forget its wide and varied, what I mean is its not all drilling and production, there infrastructure, logistics, civils, installation, hook up, commissionging and production.
Could be worth a thought.
Gool H&H Oil and Gas there will be dozens of results,
Also look at
www.oilcareers.com or www.worldwideworker.com
There are also some useful groups on linked in....
Hope this helps

I've had multiple trips out to Bulgaria and Romania conducting EHS audits on manufacturing sites as part of an EU funded project to see how recent member states are doing regarding compliance. My advice would be to stick to the countries you mention and avoid Bulg & Rom!
SMEs in both countries have very little interest in H&S partly driven by little regulation, plenty of corruption (especially Bulgaria) and a big impact from the recession. Romania has a very odd national system of risk assessment which has to be used - lots of quantification, calculation, paperwork, glossy reports and a reliance upon highly theoretical training to solve all problems - with little room for common sense or the use of control measures further up the hierarchies!
