Hello there,
I realise that this may be a little left of field compared to most of the questions, but I would appreciate any information you may have.
As part of our business, we about to start running discos for children's parties (I know you should never work with children or animals, but that is another topic by itself!) - I am keen to ensure that we maintain safe and sensible sound levels. Having reviewed this and trying to get my head around the Noise Regulations I think that we would wish to use approximately 85 Db as our top range for peak sound level.
Does this seem to be sensible? I am looking to be below the minimum exposure level (working on the principle that although the exposure will be for a short time we would want to be careful with little ears).
Many thanks in advance
Wilf

Noise at work regulations are aimed at those at work IE the persons running the disco, security staff etc
It is the big ears you have to be careful with due to the cumulative effect of noise!
Just wait till the bairns are screaming round the place and 85 dB's will go out the window!!:>

Thanks for that...
I have thought about ear defenders personally and just as you suggested not for the PA equipment!

You can get specialist hearing protection for DJs - who have to be able to hear what they are playing, without it damaging their hearing. Just google DJ hearing protection.

For interest
When undertaking noise assessments in primary school canteens it was found that the average bunch of youngsters created such noise with their chatter that all noise at work figures were blown out of the water and it would have ment that school cooks, when serving food, would have to wear industrial hearing protection!
