Hello Every one my name is steve i have over 28yrs in constuction as a bricklayer and have taken myNEBOSH General cert in consruction and am looking to get work in the health and safety sector in construction I am willing to travel for work and have applied for work via shp web site but becuse i have no experiance in health and safety have not had much luck. although i have minimal experiance such as being a representive for many sub-contractors in health and safety meeting as a forman and given the tool box talks on a weekly basis i would be willing to do voluntary or piggybacking to gain my experiance hopefullysome one will be able to give me some advice on this many thank

hi steve im in the same boat as you,ive been a steel fixer for 20 years and have decided to move in to health and safety,have you tryed going to constuction sites and constructions businesses and giveing them your cv,just to get your name out there,good luck with your quest.

I'd suggest going for something like a clerk of works or other supervisory position where you can use your existing practical knowledge in tandem with your interest in h&s.

Hi Steve,
You dont say if youre working now or not. If you're not all I can suggest you do is what I did. I was reinstating within the utilities industry for over 20 years, took the nebosh construction cert last year around the same time as redundancy came. I was on the lap top 5 or 6 hours a day every day, applying for jobs, looking for jobs, sending speculative emails to all the construction companies I could find, reading up on regulations etc. etc.
It took 6 months until someone gave me a chance and luckily I've just got past the 3 month probationary period working for a consultancy as Construction H&S Advisor. Because we haven't got the experience as a lot of other unemployed H&S workers have we have to try much harder and keep plugging away.
Just to pre-warn you though, it's an unforgiving job at times, and oddly enough most of the grief I get is from brickies :)
