Hi All,
I have noticed a number of electrical cables in older parts of our site that have been left hanging in place and cut ends. Maintenance dept says they are redundant and haven't been removed because cost and difficulty involved. Is there a standard practice for identifying such cables (BS or similar) that the cables themselves should tagged as redudant?
Thanks

Ok unless there are other live services running alongside. Then I think the redundant wiring (all conductors) should be earthed at either end? I'm sure one of our electrical experts will be along soon..........

Ron, you are correct. Correct procedure is to disconnect cables from distribution board at the feed end, twist or bolt all conductors together at both cable ends and terminate in a terminal box. Identify & label as redundant. Put a message in terminal boxes giving full details of location of both ends, cable size mm2 etc if known Then if anyone tries to reuse the cable in the future and gets the connections wrong, the fuses will blow. regards Peter

If money might motivate you then stripped clean copper was around £3,000 a tonne not so long back

Unless the redundant cable is clipped along an AIB soffit - you won't turn a profit then!
