Hi, has anyone any advise on how to reduce the time spent on refresher Patient Handling training/manual handling training?

There are a host of possible ways, from improving the quality of recruits, of managers, of the training content, introducing behavioural safety methods of feedback, carefully recording every form of 'incident' and so on.

It depends where you're starting and the standards you want to reach. Obviously, you can reduce the time spent on 'refresher' training to zero if you and your management are prepared to pay for the consequences.

If you want to invest in a simple but very incisive tool, a company of ergonomists in Australia sell packs of modestly-priced patient assessment cards which can be given to each employee as a daily reminder of the issues to recall when they're handling a patient.

.... sorry for the slip... the last entry closed before I had time to tell you the name of the company: 'Ergonomics Australia Pty Ltd., New South Wales.

You can access their website through Google; there's a display of the cards (with more than 20 well-drawn images on each) on their website. Very well designed and good value for the task you have in mind
