Would anyone be able to advise me if there has been any changes in legislation with regards to the lifting and transportstion of beer kegs? more specifically is there a requirement to use and electrically powered pallet truck? I have a service provider who is advising that they need new equipment on the basis of a change in legislation and I have a suspicion that it is more down to a risk assessment. I need to clarify where the changes have come from to understand who needs to procure the new equipment and if the procurement is down to me, then I need to make sure that the correct equipment is being purchased. if anyone can shed any light on this I would appreciate the help.

There isn't any legislation on handling beer kegs and therefore there is not change in legislation on handling beer kegs. Just the bog standard manual handling Regs apply. They're trying to pull a fast one. Plenty of MH aids out there that are inexpensive and to be honest due to our many old buildings in this country many companies still have to move and lift their kegs by hand due to space constraints.

Dont see how they are pulling a fast one they seem to have stated that they require mechanical handling equipment to transfer the kegs. Okay they erroneously or surrepticiously mention new legislation, but maybe it's new to them. At the end of the day its down to your and their R/A, can MHE be used in the environment concerned or not? Maybe it is an old building, maybe not, maybe there are space constraints and maybe not, your risk assessment should cover this.
