THIS IS NOT TO DISCUSS THE ETHICS of RAMADAN!! As Ramadan is approaching firstly I would like to remind you guys of this, and it may pay to start an awareness or readiness campaign. I am curious as to how Ramadan is handled in the UK, and what contingencies are made for the holy event.

Hi, to my knowledge we have one employee who celebrates Ramadan though our arrengements would apply to anyone else. We alter their shift pattern so they can follow their faith requirements. This works well, as far as I am aware. Lilian

Also worth bearing in mind that fasting and abstinence does take place - so you need to make allowances for that, especially the fasting. [This was brought home to me when I had a taxi back from the airport, bombing up the motorway at 6pm at 70+ mph, and the driver told me that he had given up ciggies [40 a day] and hadn't eaten for 10 hours - he was more than a little tense, and so was I]

That went well. What I meant to do was provide the link but it would not work. If you click on the link yourself it will take you to the MCB/DTI document. cheers Martin
