It is Friday, so i was wondering what you all feel about Noel Edmonds in Deal or No Deal this week?
The theme of the show this week is a desert island, and the poor contestants have been made to dress up like Robinson Crusoe, The Banker gives them the oportunity of doubling their prize money, or winning a holiday if they find the correct message in a bottle.
The bottles are not real glass, but our favorite presenter decides to wear full PPE before smashing the bottle, he ducks below a rock and then appears with Hi Viz, googles, safety hat, and sometimes gloves!
The audience laugh and applaud, but in reality it is yet another media show belitterling H&S.

Your thoughts please, but dont forget it is friday, so please dont take this too far!!!!!!!!!!

Try wearing it all day in this heat, the time will come when operatives who have to will fall down due to heat exhaustion on site, and then maybe reality will take over, the point of wearing gloves all day, glasses all day and all the rest, people walk past sites on the roads and schools next to ops wearing all this, who belittles safety, take a good look at the reasons why its forced on operatives, then tell me who is belittling safety

Not exactly the smartest thing for a presenter of a show, that had one fatality and a serious injury to do.

personally i think you need to chill out it's an entertainment show (which i personally haven't seen for years) so they have a bit of a laugh about H&S so what that is what the show is supposed to do is entertain if that is slightly at the expense of H&S then so be it most entertainment or jokes are at the expense of something or somebody i would rather that than them condoning doing something dangerous. I we can't laugh at ourselves form time to time then I'm not sure it something i want to be in.

Same for all those that bang on about the Daily Mail instead of giving links to their website which everyone then goes clicking on or buying their newspapers DON'T if they get lass and less people going to their website or buying their papers then they will soon (or may be not) that what they are publishing people don't want to read.

Maybe be i haven't word this correctly but we are often adding fuel to the fire by keep repeating these stories and adding links to these stories and complaining on the forums about them if you disagree with the story post your comments in their comments section and leave it at that.

...Noel Edmonds is a ..........(please insert name of your choice)

ciaran maybe in the light of his accident record he was just been cautious.

Or...maybe he did it for a laugh and was actually poking fun at the "ludicrious" people who adapt the hH/S umberella to hide behind.

NAAAAAAAAAAAA! Please fill in the top line

Have a nice weekend everyone ...i an off early today to tend to my cabbages.

Lighten up all, it made me laugh (well the first time it did).

There are loads of humerous video clips poking fun at ludicrous H&S application; check out "safety Nut" on YouTube.

Persojnally I don't get offended by comics picking up on a social issue, it's those amongst us that apply rules under the guise of H&S that are the real comedians.

I've just remembered the character that Steve Cooghan did on one of his show...Ernest Moss.

That was hilarious and must be on YouTube somewhere.

I caught a bit of it the other day. I usually smile at the media/ tv reports of H&S and H&S advisors, however I found this particualr individual irritating to say the least when you consider his history see. Ciarans' comment

I don't have a problem with the light-hearted stuff... provided it's funny. We had a puppet festival last weekend in Beverley, and if you ever see any publicity for Noisy Oyster doing Dangerous Dave please go and watch, it will be in the street so free. It's not just Dave diving into the pickled egg jar of doom, it's the whole thing, and as for 'Pop the Puppet' (do you have the nerve to play Pop the Puppet?)... let's just say I'm pleased that most PPE doesn't look quite like that,

Perhaps we could convince these over-exposed "celebrities" that a welders visor would be more appropriate.........at all times.

It is worth directing forum members to the history behind Ciaran Delaney's comment, See: http://en.wikipedia.org/...ate,_Late_Breakfast_Show

Sorry, but stones and glasshouses come to mind!

Didn't refer to this website at all.

With regard to the sticks and stones comment, I haven't a clue what Arran is referring to. Maybe he is getting confused with another poster who berated another person who posted a link from a blog that the poster didn't hold in high esteem.

Ciaran,

What I was trying identify was how ironic it is that someone can make a cheap joke out of H&S when his career collapsed in the late 1980s as a result of this fatality.

The Wikipedia article is a quite sobering read.

errrm just one point people - presenters of shows are not responsible for the actions taken in a show - that's down to the Producers and the Directors - it's on a par with blaming a reporter for the news!!

I am of course open to correction but was there an independent production company involved in which he was involved?
