We are in the process of rolling out a new FLT fleet, and the new trucks have an electronic management system on board meaning we can set, and monitor the speed of each truck. Our current external site speed limit is 10 mph, and we're looking at introducing limits of 6 mph and 4 mph on different trucks in different parts of the factory. Our Union Rep has now said that he believes there is already a legal internal speed limit, set by the HSE. I've been on their website, and also done a google search, but can't find anything to either confirm or refute this. Can anyone help please?

There is no "legal internal speed limit". It's all down to your risk assessment. HSE have a very good guidance section on internal transport - this is what they have to say about speed limits http://www.hse.gov.uk/wo...ort/factsheets/speed.htm

Thanks Heather. You've cleared that up nicely for me. I should have searched on "Transport" not "FLT"

Fully agree with above - no specified speed limit in regulation - all down to risk assessments - and they will in turn be influenced by individual circumstances such as type and stability of load carried or if truck being driven unloaded, nature of surface etc etc.
