Hi All, Will there ever be a solution to getting assistance to off-site lone workers that are exposed to violence or aggression???? After 3 years I still haven't found one. We have a large number of 'care' type staff as well as lettings agents and patrol offices (and many more) that are regularly exposed to V&A hazards of varying risk. We have all the internal stuff sorted like planning routes and calendars, training, ssow's and so on, but when it comes to finding a device or mobile phone solution that will get them help when it all goes belly up? Problems; Staff do not want to carry additional devices around with them, The device we do have, when it is used, more often than not breaks down or malfunctions, We had problems in the past with the usability of mobile phone solutions relating to ease of use and covert activation, We have an ARC response centre, through a service provider, they NEVER follow our protocols, recently to the very near detriment of a staff members physical safety, the service level of our service provider is poor at best, The best solution I've seen so far, and the most popular, is the Blackberry based App', but we do not issue Blackberry handsets to all staff. Is there anybody out there with a happier story than mine? Please help! Jon

Brendan Comey of the Fire Risk Management Group specialises in these types of systems. Go to the networks page, click on his name and he will get back to you. Otherwise pm me and I will get him to contact you.

Commo one thing which I looked at is called identicom which is useful if your staff wear ID cards like I do, on a band hanging round your neck. Instead of just being a name badge holder this also has buttons on the back which can be pressed to alert others/emergency services and another button which records the ongoing verbal interaction. GPS tracking etc. I have no link with the organisation but have a look at www.connexion2/com or another with similar kit is www.soloprotect.com Cheers Martin

One of my clients (social housing, care homes) has had a mixed experience of the I/D card device mentioned by MartinW. Some staff liked the system and welcomed it. Others thought it too "big brother" and was tracking them on the loo (it doesn't). It reportedly was instrumental in preventing a minor incident from escalating and gives peace of mind to those who are using it. I too have no connection with the supplier/operator.
