Hi,I have an employee who is accessing various high level platforms through fixed , tubular access ladders.
He is having MH issues whilst climbing due to the weight of his laptop,tools and occasional spare part. He has asked about a lockable container that he could hoist up by rope - he has seen other contractors using toolboxes etc but is rightly worried about the box popping open during the hoist. Does anyone do anything similar or know where I can purchase suitable containers?

If he is worried about the box popping open, why not purchase a case that it is lockable (via code or key).
Just be careful, you may be aware of this court case, which is very, very close to your circumstances.

I would be more worried about him letting go of the rope and splatting someone underneath than the box popping open especially if it is lockable. We often had to climb vertical ladders with tools, take the minimal amount you need in a tool bag or ruck sack ensure you have both hands free for climbing if we had a lot to carry then we would drop a rope down and lift them up but make sure the load are light and no one is under the load when lifting and also the person doing the lifting is secure / safe at the top.
if things go wrong be willing to drop the load which they might no be willing to do if it is a laptop.

Could a pulley system be put in place where by once he reached the work area that he would be able to pull the case up after him and an exclusion zone be put in place around the area. I presume that he is worked at your base and not travelling around.
A rachet strap could be put around the box if they felt that would make the case more secure.

Thanks for your comments Gents. I have looked at the obvious such as him dropping the container and the like. As regards to frequent,light loads it is the current tool bag catching on the surrounds of the tubular ladder that is jarring his back. This is at various locations on a clients site so unfortunately fixed fittings like pulley systems are a no-go.
