Early Contractor Involvement - how it affects CDM Regs

Hi,
We have a design & build project where the PC is being appointed early on in the design process. My question is - how does this affect the development of the PCI? Is it simply an advantage and their input will add to the PCI and ensure all issues are resolved and consequently we issue a PCI as normal prior to going on site and the PC will issue a CPP or do we issue a PCI now before they are appointed with minimal info and develop the design as part of the CPP.
My initial thougth is that we work with the PC in devloping the PCI and the PC produces a CPP prior to going on site?

I think your bottom line is a great idea.
This gets full involvement from the PC right from the start and their input into the way you develop the plans will be invaluable.
CDM-C still issues the PCI and PC does the CPP.
They PC may have to become a "designer" under the Regs. so they will have duties as such.

Your initial thoughts are correct as are the details from Chris, in that the PC may become a designer.
If only all parties communicated early doors, many of the health and safety issues could be designed out, good luck.
