I was wondering if anyone has recently audited an entire service recently?
We have an internal audit template, using scores out of three, which is fairly useful for comparisons. But the template is aimed at buildings and sites compliance as opposed to service audits. Upon review of the template with my line manager we have agreed that it will form part of my service audit - so that we can make some comparisons with another audit completed in a separate area two years ago...but that the audit I will conduct will be more in line with the business' new "programme approach".
The previous audit was conducted on one day, with the documents seen and available on that one day with the audit report produced from that. I will be checking the paperwork too, and perhaps a one day check is suitable.
However to get results we can learn from, rather than just identify what isn't there, we are thinking of conducting an anonymous survey with those "on the ground" to get a feel for what they can remember or believe they've been trained in, assessments and SSOW that they've been told about etc. Which may help us identify areas or locations where compliance in training, instruction, PPE provision etc. is done routinely and others where not (we already know documentation is patchy, so their accounts could be useful albeit not reliable). It will also help indicate attitudes to health and safety, and what they view as their responsibilities, which will help us with future actions.
However the above survey will take time to make sure we catch the majority of workers.
Does anyone have any rules of thumb on how long to let the audit go on for? One day, or one week?
Thanks!
