Just completed an audit on clause 4.4.2 competence, training and awareness only to find no records covering this subject only at induction = major non conformity. Does anyone have an environmental awareness training presentation with a bias on an individuals actions = environmental impact I could borrow or know of a suitable DVD of same to purchase. Have already used Napo on CoSHH so don't wish to repeat. Any suggestions? Badger

Barrie As all have fought shy on this I feel some thoughts may be helpful. The clause covers three separate aspects of personal ability and each needs to have a set of records. A simple DVD or whatever is not going to be of any real use except for the awareness side of the clause - and this does need to be then tailored to your own organisational systems also. The training is with respect to the abilities of each employee to carry out the routine environmental related tasks of the organisation in accordance with your own procedures. This would thus be supported with evidence of some assessment of the type of training required as well as the training records. Competence goes even further and is to do with the competence of those running and managing the system. What standards of achievement are expected and how is the competence to be managed. Again a variety of records are needed here. Bob

The EA used to publish a couple of useful dvds which can be used - one is on waste and the other is on pollution. Unfortunately I can't remember the proper names at the mo. Try searching on the EA wbsite. regards Yul

Barrie Hi, with out trying to be evaisive on the direct issue of 4.4.2, the driver clause is 4.3.1 Environmental Aspects. Once you know what the hazards are then that should be the first point of call in deciding what to train on. Then look into what is available to use for training. best wishes Simon
