Has anyone out there determined any useful mechanical aids appropriate to the above task? Getting the Unit from the van to the kitchen is straightforward enough via a barrow, however these boilers are HEAVY and are routinely installed in cramped cupboards, above kitchen worktops etc. involving significant risk. Thanks in anticipation.

Ron, we have a similar conundrum which although doesn't contribute anything in terms of answering your query does at least let you know that you're not alone with this one. I'd appreciate an answer too if anyone has one. Thanks

I used to work for a well known domestic boiler manufacturer and had occasion to conduct a manual handling assessment on installing boilers at trade counter exhibitions. As you point out some of these domestic boilers can weigh up to 70kg. My advice at the time was to source a mechanical lift the was collapsible and would fit in a car boot. These were approx £1k at the time (circa 2005) so it never happened. In the end they resorted to requesting help from the store owners, obviously not an option for sole traders and engineers installing boilers on their own. If I can find the details I will send them by private message.

As an addendum to the above I am sure that the lift in question was in the Kaisercraft catalogue.

Cheers Max, it's always good to know that your problem is a shared one! Thanks pl 53 - I'll have a look at that catalogue. Comments, suggestions and solutions still welcome!

Was this the kind of item you were considering pl53? http://www.kaiserkraft.c...rank.html?article=159611 This one isn't collapsible, but looks worthy of consideration and would be fine for our transit type fleet - it would assist from get the thing off the van all the way to the point of installation over reasonable terrain and the odd step or two. Not much use for those awkward installations above kitchen cupboards/worktops, and that raises some interesting CDM Designer duty issues...............and of course stair climbing is a whole other issue!
