I have been wondering why the Association For Project Safety havent been included in this new register. Does anyone believe this register will become mandatory awell ?

IOSH has a standard for consultants that would be difficult for the APS to achieve, unless & i could be wrong, you have at least level 4 qualification in safety + 5 years full time experience and also on a CPD scheme

I cant agree with that statement particularly as IOSH is not mentioned in the CDM ACOP and many members of the APS have 2 qualifications such as a Degree in Construction and a NEBOSH Construction Cert.
Also members of ROSPA, British Safety Council and the Institute of Ergonomics and Human factors are included in the Register but not the APS?

We should remember that the APS is primarily focussed on the role of the CDMC and is not to my mind a primarily H&S focussed association. It appears the HSE agree with me. (Or I agree with them !!!!)

The APS are totally focused on Construction Health and Safety including the Design stage hence they need a Construction related qualification aswell as a NEBOSH Construction Cert.
I am not sure what is required to join ROSPA or the British Safety Council and actually I know CMIOSH with only a Certificate although that is not the case for the new intakes.

It is not possible to be a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner with what we regard today as the NEBOSH Certificate as this has never met the qualification criteria for full IOSH Membership.
Back in 1980s there was a lower level certificate for Associate Membership and higher level certificate for Full Membership of IOSH.

Apologies if Im wrong but maybe they were joking; however there was a chap here called Merv who worked in France who also claimed similarly. Maybe IOSH themselves would care to comment.

There was a Register of Safety Practitioners (RSP) before CMIOSH was invented. What was wrong with that and why not just reinvent it now?

Just to ad to the rumour mill, I heard something similar to BJC, in the distance past a guy did the NEBOSH Gen Cert and was CMIOSH. Took the statement with a pinch of salt and a splash of vinegar myself!

Back in the bad old days[!] I joined IOSH as a Topic Specialist [Chartered Engineer who worked on 'Safety Stuff'] with no formal safety qualification whatsoever - taking the NEBOSH Cert later on was amusing as I had the MIOSH letters to my name and the Lecturer found that difficult to cope with.
Later I sat on IOSH Council [still only NEBOSH Cert] as a Specialist Group Chair - at one meeting there was a comment from a younger Council Member about MIOSH's who didn't have anything above Cert level, and should it be allowed? The response from a 'senior' Council Member was - "be careful - about 40% of Council Members present were in that situation, having joined as Topic Specialists many years ago"
Today [Still only Cert holder], as a CMIOSH, I console myself with the thought that its experience that counts.
