Can anyone tell me what level of protection my new hard hat with integral visor affords? The following codes apply. Thanks. EN 166:2001 1(optical class) B (medium energy impact) Approved to ANSI Z89-1-2003 TYPE 1 Class 3 and ANSI Z87.1-1989.

Depends what hits it, from what angle, the speed it was travelling and how sharp it is when it gets you. The standard EN 166 relates to the visor, and for medium-energy impact they fire a small ball bearing at it, from a certain distance at a certain speed. I can't recall the specifics at the moment. To give you a baseline Chris it's equal to / slightly better than safety glasses. Hope that helps. A

Alex, thanks. I take it then that it is a bit like the old grade 2 impact?

I seem to recall that EN I66 B, is suppose to protect up to speeds of 125 meters per second, and En 166 F speeds up to 45 meters per second

Brian, I don't have a parcel shelf so it's in the rear of the estate, in a bag with my boots etc. Well looked after. I don't think the level of protection alters however :-(
