I have a question for any DGSA / H&S bods, it is regarding the Instructions in Writing, specifically when carrying Class 6 (Toxic) & Class 2.3 (Toxic Gases) and the use of the emergency escape mask as mentioned in the IIW. My question being would the drivers who are issued with these escape mask be required to have the masks face fitted. The reason I ask is the drivers are not expected to use the masks on a daily basis or even as a control measure they are purely there to escape from a spillage / leak from drum etc. The half face masks issued are 4279 FFABEK1P3D. Any thoughts?

What is the point of issuing RPE if your don't know it works. Might as well as the bloke to hold his breath until he gets out of the cab and away to a safe location PS We have a spell checker yeah

100% agree with A Kurdziel. For this reason when I worked on chemical plants we used to issue hoods not masks.
