In our warehouse we have just acquired two small electric motorised toyota pallet trucks, they have forks that are capable of lifting a pallet to approximately 6ft, we don't really need this function but it is available. The trucks are used to load and unload pallets off a wagon via a docking station.
They are not classed as fork lifts and I'm not sure if a license is required for them?
I suppose if anyone jumped on it with no training they could injure themselves as if they turn sharply they could easily be thrown from the vehicle.
What type of inhouse training could we do ? I need to capture some form of training for the people who operate this machine to prove that they are competent but not sure how to go about it

When you say "jump on it" are you talking about the ride on type you often see in warehouses?
I'd suggest the manufactuerer or supply would be able to advise

There is no such thing as a forklift license in th UK but I would strongly advise you have your operators trained by an accredited forklift training provider. Pedestrain stackers cause injuries as well, usually to the operator.

Sorry, just re-read your initial post.
* It's got forks * The forks can raise to 6ft * The operator can be thrown from it
It's a forklift truck!
I'd be interested to know why you don't think they are?

The actual definition for this type of truck is a "Pedestrian Stacker Struck" from what I can gather the difference between this and a FLT is that you don't sit on it, you walk behind it or stand on it
If anyone knows of a company N.West who they could recommend to give competency training on such a truck I would be grateful

Hi Mersey, Try getting in touch with the local rep for toyota lift trucks, they should be able to recommend someone. Just make sure whoever the training body is they are accredited RTITB,ITSAAR,CITB etc.

Maybe 3 is the standard number

Registered instructors are only allowed to teach a max of 3 at anyone time. If anyone offers to do more, leave well alone.

0845 8066 377 Nationwide Forklift, ask for Geoff. They are based in Lancaster but do what it says on the tin - Nationwide training.
I am a very happy customer with no other connection to this business.
