Could be worse - they could be expecting somebody to actually work for nothing rather than just talk about it!

This could be a start for someone getting on the first rungs of the ladder. I do hope that they provide some out of pocket expenses and that the role really will provide experience rather than just getting cheap labour, which I’m sure is not the case.

I do believe this ConDem government has made a statement reviewing "Unpaid Internships" and are looking at stopping this form of slavery.
I cannot print the exact text but the Institute for Public Policy and Research did some research and found that employers “almost certainly break the law” when taking on unpaid interns. The report also found that unpaid internships are common in politics (surprise surprise - do as we say not as we do), media and the fashion industry and are seen as key in helping young people to get a head start in their career.
The report concludes that interns may be able to claim wages for their work if they took the company to a Tribunal.
I realise that some may see this "Unpaid" work as a good step, IMO it can be if conditions and ultimate rewards are in line with promises made. Conversely in today's climate cynics may see this as unpaid work to save on cost!!!!!!!
