I am currently checking that records are being kept correctly and for sufficient times for our activities. Is anyone aware of any specific guidance for the minimum duration of storage for records relating to asbestos removal by a 3rd party contractor. Records such as when/where/who and copies of licences. Hi Richard, this is why it is sometimes prudent to keep photos and scanned 4 stage clearance reports long term. You never know when you may need them. The UKAS accredited laboratory will retain your records, for purpose of 4 stage clearance for 6 years or thereabouts too.

Are there any grants out there for businesses removing asbestos?

There was a scheme that existed some years ago, but I think it's gone, and I'm not sure there's no future plans particularly with the governmental cuts of late.

Hi Richard, As Birchall31628 says it is a good idea to scan clearance documents etc. As an aside any records relating to medicals, health, personal etc. are required to be retained for 40 years by the employer. This is requirement of CAR2006 and relates to anyone working with asbestos not just the licence holder. Equipment records are retained for 5 years. Any records relating to removals, remediation, abatement, etc. would/ should be referred to in the asbestos management plan/ surveys for the premises (e.g. asbestos register) so that there is traceability for ongoing management and/or refurbishment/ demolition. As far as I know there is no time limit on the retention of documents for this purpose. If storage space is an issue you could consider electronic storage or farming the storage out to a specialist company. I don't know of any grant system available for commercial asbestos removal.
