I have recently visited a very well know toy superstore and have some serious concerns over some of their practices. I visited the toilets with my son and found that the final fire escape had cable-ties across the push-bar handles, [I imagine as security], also they always seem to place multiple shopping trolleys in the unused checkout aisles, even though there is a purpose built barrier in place to prevent customers exiting. Thus leaving only 1 aisle to run down in the event of requiring escape. Has anyone else seen this and does anyone else believe these practices are dangerous, I was even thinking about contacting the HSE.

Hi Ken, I used to work for a very well known supermarket and the stuff they did/didn't do would make your hair curl. Blocking final exits, not undertaking FRA's, poor training, horrendous housekeeping- the list goes on and on. Probly why they were prosecuted recently. However, the cable ties are for security and should be designed to break on operation of the final exit. Also, its not the HSE you want its the local fire authority
