Can anyone give me any guidance/advice/help etc on employees who are are allowed to either become a "home worker" i.e. they are home based and work from home most of the time, or people who "work from home" occassionally for a day i.e. to complete an important piece of work or if they cannot get into work for some reason, but they are generally office based.
What are the health and safety liabilities / requirements for both "home based workers" and "people working from home".
Any assitance would be much appriciated.
Thanks

This topic was covered in full about two weeks ago, there were two separate threads.
Do a search to find all the information.

Mungry - I agree the search facility is not the best. Here's how I found the threads you are looking for.
Click on search and put the phrase "home working" (without the quotes) in the SECOND box. the first one just searches for the poster's name.
Then go and make a cup of tea while the search engine loads (no really, I honestly did go and make a cup of tea!) and by the time you come back you will have a load of results :)

Also you could try HSE website which has some useful, if basic information on this.

This charming feature of the search facility is in the 'glitches' reported to IOSH. You may also find when you come back with your brew that there are error messages on screen. Don't panic, clear them and you may still find the results are on screen.

Charming is not quite the description I wold have used. I think "quaint" may be more appropriate! Maybe instead of the rather useless "loading results" caption that sits on the screen for long enough to search the entire internet (maybe that's what it's doing?) we could have "Don't panic" in nice big calming letters?
Sorry - have gone a bit off-topic there...

Try using indg73 (lone working) form HSE and guides from IOSH, Barbour and the like to give you idea what to look for. The legal requirements are as per HASAWA 1974 and regulations to consider are Management of Health & Safety at Work, Display Screen Equipment, Manual Handling Operations, Provision & Use of Work Equipment and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (there may be others but these are the main ones). Getting a risk assessment done at each location is the most important thing to do in my view and then work from there.
