I am seeking either advice or being pointed in the right direction on the requirements for window restrictors, where guests, including young children (school groups), may use the accomodation for both recreation and sleeping. We have window restriction in place where there is the direct potential for an individual/child to open a window and to fall from the opening. The grey area is coming from conflicting auditors who insist that every window in the accomodation should be fitted with window restriction. This includes windows that are remote and do not represent any form of hazard. Whilst all reasonable precautions are taken, the restriction of opening the windows also throws up other issues in the requirements of sufficiently venting the accomodation. This can result in the restrictors being broken from the windows by guest to allow ventilation in the rooms!! To remove all conflicting advice and to have a solution to the safety and venting of the rooms, I would like the specific requirements of distance of openings, distance from an area to an opening window.etc Thanks Andy

I would suggest a risk assessment is the approach to take. When I have worked in similar environments we secured all windows with a risk of someone falling. Remember to consider stairwells as well as there have been cases where people have accessed these and fallen.
