I am just about to take on a short term temporary contract with a company. As this is the first time I have done this type of work since losing my full-time permanent job, I would appreciate any advice as to what I should ensure regarding pay / terms and conditions etc. I will be working from home with a weekly travel to the job base. Many thanks!

Are you going to be employed by them direct or are you going to be self-employed, how long is the contract for weeks, month, years. I would have though they would have already given some indication as to the salary, ask what the contract of employment would be they should then tell you holiday entitlement or any sickness benefit. but as it is a short term contract there may not be any and you would have to take it unpaid. establish if they are paying for your mileage from home to the work site (normally 40p a mile) if they aren't hen that could affect how much you are likely to take home if the site is some distance. other than that you don't have much entitlement to other perks as it is contract work for a reason but the hourly rate would normally be better than if you where working full time for the company. But as you are out of work then look at it as money coming in and additional experience that could lead to a full time position or a longer contract. phil
