David, We do this on demolition sites and I treat it as a CoSHH assessment. Try the HSE zoonoses guidance, though I just did and didn't find the one I have, so that must be out of print then. Try Steve's links. Key points then: Lots of diseases; psittacosis, ornithosis, pigeon fanciers lung, extrinsic allergic alveolitis, bugs such as e-coli, plus parasites - pigeons are too thick to build nests so lay their eggs in the you know what and then sit in it, go figure. And I'm talking the feral variety here before anyone points out that pigeons can build nests. So don't get the you-know-what airborne. Overalls and P3 RPE probably a good starting point. Get the dust wet only DON'T, because if you do it will give off ammonia and the P3 won't save you then! At least you can get a decent data sheet for ammonia. Light damping down Jeyes fluid will help, shovel it into sacks and seal them. Might want to lay on showers, too, we do. Waste disposal might be an issue too. Took 20 tonnes of the stuff off a building once, but haven't done one recently so start with the big waste companies first. Now all you need is a couple of guys mad (or highly paid) enough to spend a couple of days shovelling poo! Good Luck! Paul
