Does anybody have an existing safe system of work for staff undertaking routine maintenence and repair of windows at height?
The scenario we have is a typical tilt and turn window in a tower block which requires new hinges for example. The window opens inwards to allow access to the hinges, but the engineer has to reach up or stand on a hop-up which means that he/she is at risk of falling through the open appature or could drop tools, materials, etc. The manager of that team went out and purchased a fall restraint system which fits into a door appature but has never used it as it takes time to assemble and is difficult to use in an occupied property.
I think what I'm looking for is how others deal with these issues and at what point you decide that a fall restraint system is to be deployed etc. Managers here seem to want to apply their thinking to a tower block but are reluctant to want to do anything with 3 or 4 storey buildings or indeed a house, all of which may present a risk of a fall from height by undertaking the same (or similar) tasks.
