Hi again,
I did post a question a week ago, but might have not done it in a clear way.
Let me rephrase it;
How many different Construction Sites at various locations is a manageable number of jobs ( monthly scale ) that a SHE Advisor should be responsible for.
At present I am overwhelmed with the jobs on my list (over twenty…)
All of these come under CDM Regs. and some are budgeted in their millions.
Please share your opinion !

Too many variables to give clear answer on the basis of your question.
To start with geography. Some advisors spend at least as much time travelling as doing the job. Others may have multiple sites in relatively close proximity.
Then the competence of site management and workforce comes into play. If less to be concerned about then a site visit might take less time.
Then who does what. If site managers do inductions, tool box talks etc, then less time input required by SHE advisor. In contrast, that advisor might be spending time developing the packages.
So this is one of those "how long is a piece of string?" questions.

Agree with Peter,
Also there's a difference with 'overseeing' and practical implimenting some of the systems that are usually placed into the responsibility of site managers, equally important that their responsibilities are documented clearly e.g. construction H&S plan?

Thanks for your feedback guys,
In my particular case site managers are being responsible with Safety Management on site, but apart from this, there is the general duties and getting the actual job done, keeping and eye on operatives etc. reality.
“Old School” attitude, should not be ignored either since, quite often H&S duties, although designated as required by established procedures in place are often being neglected by the site teams.
Deadlines and profits do influence people motivation, in particularly so, during the current economic climate.
As an advisor, my duties are to oversee the smooth running of H&S management at each site, legal compliance and implementation of existing company procedures in place.
Reporting accident and investigating the above is also part of the daily routine.
Like you have suggested, if safety management is proactively approached in a positive way, then there should be little time required to attend to the various jobs and ensure the obvious is the case.
Other teams require a lot more “nurturing” before changes take place and ultimately culture starts developing in the right direction.
The “piece of string length” is indeed a tricky one…
Know anyone with all the answers?
Please don’t say.
I would rather reach them by myself.
Guess that’s part of the fun…

I would have said if you are overwhelmed with work and you are feeling that this maybe compromising safety as you are producing quantity rather than quality then this is something you need to raise with your boss. If you can identify specific areas that are taking up your time unnecessarily then identify these to him to see if they can be resolved with higher management support or can be past to another employee to resolve.
You may need to look at prioritising your work load so you aren't get distracted by insignificant issues and focus on the high priority issues. Normally in any organisation there is wasted time in either completing pointless documents or waiting on decisions can any of these systems be speeded up by making them electronic, change the level of approval required or just doing away with that system altogether. There's always something we do everyday or at least weekly that we believe doesn't add any value or our time could be better spent doing something else. just because it has always be done that way doesn't mean it can't change and new technology brought in or responsibility moved somewhere else.
