Training to Training courses- insurance and company resposibilities?

Hi,
We are sending some of our employees on a training session for 2 days of site. We do not have a company vehicle to collect and drive all staff (9 people) so we have given them directions and agree to pay mileage to cover their travel.
Is there any issues with individuals car insurance and would this technically be classed as travelling on company business?
Cheers

I presume the employees will still be paid during the training so personally I would class it as company business. You just need a copy of the MOT if the car is over 3 years old, copy of insurance document with business travel on it and the licence of the driver.

we have to very carefull here as when an office worker drops of the post in a post box [drives in their own car to the p-box ] on their way home from work do we start checking car policies here as well?
Your insurers need to provide for this as technicially until the post has been dropped off the person is at work and could be driving on behalf of the co to that post box! We have to use common sense as who will pay additional business cover premium on their private car insurance unless they have to?
I would say that the training is to be provided but would not offer a way of getting to that training as staff would only be acting on their employers business whilst that training is underway & not before / afterwards. I would only pay basic expenses beyond the normal expenses a person pays to get to their normal place of work; noting that some people may live nearer to the training place than their normal works so they would get nothing as they would be making £!
