Hi. My partner has recently moved to the US and I am hoping to follow her in the near future. I am a CMIOSH and have a MSc in EHS management. I intend to join an equivalent body to IOSH in the US to boost my chances of getting work. Can anyone recommend the best body to join? Also if anyone has had experience in immigrating and getting work in H&S in the US I would be grateful to hear how you did it. Kind Regards

Hello The qualification that is a close equivalent to CMIOSH is a CSP. I recently checked this out and it appears that you can use your CMIOSH status and your wallet! to apply for CSP status by completing the relevant form (on the BCSP website). That is only the start - the biggest problem is not qualifications but will be obtaining a visa if you are going to spend any length of time out there. There are many categories but the one you will need is limited in numbers, opens in April for an October emigration, is always full as soon as it opens.....................I could go on. I have looked at this over several years and it seems the easiest way is to get a job offer from a US company. The process can then still take a couple of years!! and cost the prospective employer. They must also prove that they can't employ US citizens to do the job. One alternative is to get a job here with a US company and then seek a transfer. You will also need a good US immigration lawyer. Sorry to doom and gloom but I have been frustrated by this issue for a while now as the rules keep changing. If you find an easy route please let me know! The ASSE is good place to start and your MSc may allow you to aim for a higher visa group with fewer applicants - good luck.
