Hi all
following a couple of recent fire alarm activations, the question has been raised as to how a school keeps a record of all teaching staff on its premises.
the school is set over 6 buildings and would be extremely difficult, more impossible to ensure all staff sign in and out each and every time they are on site.
can anybody suggest a way of keeping these records? Or tell me what you currently do? The issue of hospitals usually gets raised in any discussions with them, in how do they check who is out in the event of a fire, so any advice is welcome!
thanks in advance for your help!

one systems that may work is to use a fire warden sweep systems theis is where you would carry out a sweep of the building by trained staff to ensure the building has been fully evacuted this way you then don't need to account for staff or pupils. the fact eh building is empty means no one is at risk.
the difficulty would come if all 6 buildings evacuate at once rather than each building being on separate but linked system Example:-
Building 1 fire alarms system is activated only building 1 would go into full alarm. the other 5 buildings would either go into standby or not be affected at all.
it would be difficult to have enough staff to carry out a fire warden sweep on all all six buildings if they all have to evacuate at once But not impossible. This would need training and planning.
Why is it so difficult for staff to sign in and out as surely they would spend most of the day at school and shouldn't have that greater need to keep leaving site that it causes a problem. I have been involved in fire safety with schools and they have a sign in and out policy for all staff members at the main reception. maybe you need to look at why staff need to keep signing in and out surely once the school day starts they would be on site until it ends unless on trips or having to attend meetings of site.
another system could be a swipe card located in each school building so they can swipe in and out but this would then needed to be printed in the event of an evacuation so a procedure would need to be in place for this as well as a UPS so the computer and printer will still work if there was a power failure.
remember you must be able to evacuate the entire building without assistance from the fire service and be able to confirm the building is clear on their arrival.
