Hi Folks,
Would anyone happen to have a contact in the merseyside area of a company that carries out Face Fit Training, so that i can carry out the testing in-house.
Cheers
Lee

I have always used PPE suppliers - both 3m and moldex.
As long as you buy their PPE trainer training is free.

Quantative Face fit testing should be to a recognised std, a supplier registered with fit2fit is recognised by HSE as a competent, its not cheap. Also dont forget spirometery, to see if they are fit to wear RPE. I would highly recommend reading HSG53 as most face fit RPE is not suitable for work lasting longer than an hour.

Hi Bognor
Whilst there is no argument that is written in HSG53, I believe that you will find that there are certainly major disagreement over the content and more importantly the implications for people who wear RPE in anger - eg Fire and Rescue, Asbestos, Sewer Workers.
There is also perhaps a danger of gold plating - fit2fit is a voluntary scheme which has been set up by manufacturers and the face fit industry. Lets not forget who persuaded HSE's arm over asbestos face fits when there was a perfectly sound policy in place which just happened to commercially disadvantage an fledging industry who had created a client base in the asbestos sector? Using a hood and quantitative testing is not particularly difficult - I also accept it may not be as good as a portacount - but it most certainly does pick out some failures - interestingly these people do normally fit another type of mask under the same test.
Cheers
Bruce
