Anybody know of any? I have a friend who lives above one and is complaining of a sore, dry mouth. Just trying to eliminate the possibilities.

Hi, Not sure if there is any dry cleaning in your commercial launderette but the solvents used can cause problems; if the solvents are chlorinated then acid gases such as phosgene can be formed on contact between solvent and hot surfaces e.g. lighted cigarette. Regards Steve

Possible exposure from drain/vent pipe from the waste outflow containing enzymatic washing powder (a known respiratory irritant) in solution which may form a mist. On a commercial scale, and dependent on the location, height and integrity of the drain vent stack, then yes - possible.

Thanks all so far, Ron your answer sounds most likely as the stairway upto her flat passes the room where the washers and dryers are located, the door is always open when they're trading and the stairwell always seems to smell of laundry steam.

You could ask local EHO to look further into that.

I'll let her know she has that option and leave it for her to decide.
