We are revising our legionella management contract and I wondered if any of you have KPI's you have used that you would be willing to share? The main ones we use at the moment are time to complete monitoring, dosing, etc, and number of visits on time.

Your first two are a bit negative and could promote corner cutting to meet them. I would be looking at such as degree of control and quality of reporting

I tend to agree with Bob. It is important to be sure that what should be done is being done. The time taken to do it at any particular property is of little importance. More important that the contractor is able to get round the requisite number of properties in the required calendar timescale.
A % monitor of detailed actions (temperature checks, flushing regimes etc.) across the property portfolio by the specialist contractor (or others) would be useful to all parties - designed so that it could be audited later. Usefully, this would involve a counter-signature on the local Log-Book.
Abort/ no-access visits are a frequent problem for this type of contract but in fairness, there's usually little the contractor can do about that - particulary where the contact protocols (nominated persons and key holders, time between contact and visit, restrictions on visiting times of particular types of premises, etc.) aren't up to speed.

In all KPIs it is important only to measure those things that show the desired outcomes are being achieved. In the case of legionella it is clear that the prime outcomeis the absence of organisms in the system and these can be assured best by Rons suggestions or similar. You could look at the ongoing training provision for the persons undertaking the work also.
