I am looking for a new pair of prescription safety glasses, my last pair was made by Glasses Direct, polycarbonate lenses and side shields - these side shields get dull over time and causes tunnel vision. Now I used those glasses during a contract when I was working in Iraq and I happened to see some other safety glasses that looked definitely more stylish and gave better protection (being wrap around). So does anybody have any suggestions where I can purchase some?

I use UVEX for our safety glasses which I get through ARCO www.arco.co.uk they have loads of different styles. Hope this helps Malcolm

Should not go to spec-s..... - Third rate service, poor value and even worse quality for the prices they charge. I actually go to my local branch of well know chemists - B***s Great service, free fitting service and free aftercare. I've been using them for nearly eight years now and they are still the best - that's why they don't need the fancy advertising!

Thats told me! Although I do have to disagree - certainly about the service claims - from my local store at least I get all that Freelance is stating! They even 'fitted' a pair of bog standard safety glasses for me. Maybe I am lucky?!

Kim Any high street optician will make up safety prescription glasses e.g Specsavers. Go in and ask. You say you had polycarbonate lenses before. They are the higher safety performance used by fitters / tradesman with flying bits about. An ordinary CR (cast resin) type lens may be fine. If you are employed, they may subsidise the cost, ask. regards Peter

One of our machinists went to Speccies, they said they could NOT prescibe him with safety glasses (EVEN THOUGH HE TOLD THEM HE'S A MACHINIST WITH SWARF FLYING AROUND), without company headed paper giving precise specification of the lens material to be used? I mean who is the the trade professional here, do I have to take an opthalmic course in addition to all the safety training I've taken to date? bADGER
