It always used to be (until very recently) that when someone posted looking for work the thread was locked.

This doesn't seem to be happening at the moment.

Could someone tell me, has the Policy changed? If I resubmit my job search post will it remain unlocked this time?

I have to agree as it appears that if you are a Fellow you can blatantly post an advert for your own company! Look at `Forthcoming vacancies at Corporate Risk Systems Limited’

BTW Welcome back

dsb - I'm not back. Still only lurking. This is an infrequent exception to ask a question.

Moderators -I actually wasn't refering to the thread that dsb mentioned as that was posted later but there have been many posts this last week or two that haven't been locked. I'm not saying I agree with locking of any threads asking for or offering work but it seems unfair when all of mine (and others) have been locked.

I noted that a couple were locked late yesterday. However, I don't know if more have been locked as I can no longer get onto the forums section as I'm getting error messages (I only seemed able to acces this thread as it was a link on the home page - I was hoping it would let me piggy back this into the whole forum but sadly not).

There was a bit of a melt-down yesterday morning, Claire.

Hopefully all is well now.

Yes I am able to access the forums now thank you.

However, I am still confused as to why some posts don't get locked. In recent weeks: MarkEganHS; Robson22518; shmike 2002us.

I have been told that it is how you word it.

Semantics will dictate whether your request for work is blocked or not.

I'm saying nothing.

Could I set the record straight?

Requests for work are not blocked. We lock straighforward statements from people looking for work.

This simply prevents people from posting to the topic. Our experience is that most of such posts are contrary to the Forum Rules.

The correct way of making contact with a job-seeker is via the PM facility and this is in no way altered by locking the topic, so far as we are aware. I will check this by posting to someone in a locked topic, just to be sure.

Jane

Post script: I have checked, and the PM facility works perfectly well from a locked post, so people can easily make contact with the job-seeker.

The reason I have said something is:

a) inconsistency with the locking of threads related to seeking employment opportunities.

b) Becuase there is no edit facility it is not possible to update the post. For example, you may want to bump the post back up and state that you are still looking for work, or you may want to state that you now have work and so don't need further replies, or someone may have PM'd you asking for a further bit of information (often people forget to give their location) and you might think actually yes I should put that on the post. In all of those instances having the thread locked and with no edit facility you have to write another post.

Locking of posts searching for jobs is inconvenient and I cannot see what purpose it serves.

Alternatively give us the facility to edit posts (this is the only forum I use where you can't edit posts).

IOSH should simply be more pro-active in helping those seeking work to find a suitable position in these tough job market conditions.

It is, in my view, unacceptable to hide behind the SHP clause/re adverts etc.

This service should be part of the fees we pay for. (Well I used to pay for as I have let my membership lapse, due to no tangible membership benefits belonging to IOSH)
