Good as the MAC tool is one has to remember that very few manual handling activities are the total task.

As part of the MAC tool guidance there are some videos of tasks being carried out for you to assess and then compare your answers with those given, trying these should give you the confidence you need.

I could spend a week answering this one :)
My first point is lots of the assessment tools are screening tools designed to identify high risk tasks so you can tackle these first - MAC is an example.
As you are only doing one task you could just jump in at the deepend and work through the risk assessment template at the back of (can someone confirm L23)
I always work up - start by applying the guidance filters in L23 as this may indicate that the assessment does not need to be taken further (eg lifting my cup off the table would fall within the criteria)
next I would apply MAC to colour code risk factors and give a score (you can then do this for potential solutions to show the person paying the bill the advantages of implementation)
next for high risk tasks I would apply a full assessment.
As noted don't' forget to risk assess the whole task and I also find if using MAC and the screening tools you sometimes need to be a bit creative (I use MAC for push pull and so need to use my own version :) )
right, I hope that helps?

Smart
Remember that the risk assessment for manual handling is on the person as well as the operation. So the person whom you are assessing may be able to lift 100kg, as there is no specific limit in the regs, the second person may be 65yrs old and only able to lift 10kg.
To make it worthy remember the person.
