Hi, does any one know whether hazardous goods marking of a commercial vehicle road side assitance van would apply if: 1. They are carrying a small set of gas/acetylene welding gear. 2. Small quantities of diesel and coolant ( max 20 litres in a gerry can). ? Thanks Ian

Ian, From memory 2) Small quantities of Diesel & coolant (about 20 litres) I would say No. 1) Gas/acetylene welding gear may depend on the quantity Again I believe No but would have to check against the quantity. If you don't get a more definite answer, PM me and I will investigate to confirm the answer to you. Take Care

Have you considered the requirements of DSEAR, as the van is being used for work, and the fact that if for any reason the van was involved in an accident with a resulting fire, then the emergancy services will cordon of an area due to acetylene being in the van. From memory around 500 meters.

To quickly try and explain. Get the amount of Acetylene (Usually in KG) and times it by 3 Get the amount of Oxygen (Usually in KG) and times by 1 Get the amount of Diesel (Usually in Litres) and times by 1 Add the 3 together and if it's less than 1000, then you are not in scope of the regulations and therefore only need a 2kg fire extinguisher and awareness training for the driver. This is just a general recap, I'd suggest you consult with your DGSA for exact details. If you need any further details, PM me your contact number and I'll get back to you.
