I am looking to put in place an assessment of our site in order to comply with DSEAR requirements. Are there any template check lists or risk assessment formats that are available so i can make this as less painful as possible . Any points are greatly appreciated

All I would say is this is not a painless task...
Lots of maths and chemistry is often required to get it right.
I think we need more information on what you are trying to do?
Not a helpful reply from me but calculating zone sizes and ignition energies etc can be very complicated.

OK as no one else has offered advice and I wasn't that helpful...
Are you aware of:
http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/l138.htm
it might be a good starting point, really need more info tho because if you are a chemical engineer I would write an entirely different answer than I would for someone with a NEBOSH cert and office based background.
We have too many negative posts saying you must be competent and not much else, this is one area where that notion definately applies but as yet we have no idea what you are trying to do.
If you are trying to assess a pipe range for a highly flammable material you will need different skills to if you are risk assessing the storage of a limited amount of flammables in a small lab.
Just trying to 'spark' some debate so maybe we can help more.
on that poor pun it's home time...

I advise that you bring somebody on board who is competent re these areas as its appears that whilst the intention is good this area is outside your experience zone - you can gain competence etc by working with the specialist noting that what teh-boy is saying is correct its 'hourses for courses'
best of luck

The answer is no, not without knowing more about your site circumstances.
