Has everyone seen this advice on the Directgov website?
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_191868
What do you think? I think it's cleared up some of the ambiguity that always seems to be around regarding this topic. I like the line that says "Remember, people walking on snow and ice have responsibility to be careful themselves".

Oh dear, BLG blaming IOSH for warning against taking action. I thought we had put that one to bed!
Guess the advice on direct.gov is the same as currently on HSE home page.

The government, IOSH, the HSE and Lord Young want us to feel free to clear snow but the BLG solicitors just introduce an element of doubt:
“More cautious citizens may decide that although the risk of a claim is minimal, it is still present and so choose not to attempt to clear snow from the public highway”

Thanks for the link Ken. Shame about that one paragraph in the briefing note though: "In 2009 a warning was issued to businesses by (IOSH) not to grit public pathways..."
