Thanks to all who have applied some professionalism here, I'm off to Glasgow now - just hope the new snow stays away 'till Thursday.

Thanks Chris, you shouldn't always take that when the moderators have taken a response off that it was in anyway offensive.

I don't know about the weather, but, isn't about time we chilled. It's not having a go at anyone if your just responding in a way that is seen as sarcastic or flippant it's just how you feel at the time. If it was some one saying it face to face we would probably have a laugh.
Some subjects will prompt a response just because of the nature of the subject, it doesn't mean that because we are not really taking the subject seriously that we mean any harm. Come on it's the season of good will and all that.

Personally I think this thread is a load of nonsense. There are far better and more accurate ways of checking the road and weather conditions. Try 1200 from your mobile phone (if you're on 02 - other providers have their own versions). Gives you up to date road reports. Plenty of different websites provide up to date weather info.
Weather in this country changes minute by minute, so be prepared. But asking the forum what the weather is like outside their bedroom window is utter nonsense. I've known it go from nothing to a foot of snow in a matter of hours.
Besides this is H&S forum not a weather and road reporting facility. I have been asking for a social forum for ages but IOSH have repeatedly ignored the request. Threads are removed or locked for being in breach of forum rules - ie not related to H&S. I don't know why this one has been allowed to stay.
Chris, you seem to be the only one wanting to use this forum as your personal weather and road update, so don't get narky when people give you a bit of a ribbing. You couldn't expect anything less.

Clairel I just read your post re goodbye and your reasons including being the bad guy, this just proves you actually take things too seriously yourself.
I wish you lots of luck in your new career but for heavens sake lighten up.
I'm a CMIOSH independent consultant as well and finding new work hard to get but that's the way it is at present.
This topic was a bit light hearted and while it is away from real health and safety there is such a thing as road safety. I for one have enjoyed some of the comments and, as I say if you don't want to participate then just don't bother.
By the way Glasgow is very chilly with snow still on the ground, Motherwell is even whiter.
Thanks for all comments, good and not so :-))

I don't think all comments were taken lightheartedly, certainly not by the moderators, but I just thought I'd join in and make light of the posting. Anyway for all those interested it is quite warm out in the liverpool area, although I think we could be in for a change in the weather from tomorrow, I'll let you know tomorrow if I am right. Don't be listening to any weather reports otherwise these postings will become pointless.

I had previously said that this proposal was a stunningly meaningless suggestion and that the idea of asking for weather information 2 days before a trip (post #1) was just crazy.
Now, despite a denial of that dubious timing (post #17), there was once more a request for information 2 days before a trip (post #32)!
Though my original commentary has mysteriously disappeared, it seems that others may share my opinion. I only hope that for those involved, more serious safety decisions will be based on more accurate and up-to-date information.

Ian views of usefulness has been done to death, some find it a waste others appreciate the advise given or take a light hearted approach, but as with those who moan about tv programmes where there is an off button, there is always the option not to read and then pass comment.
Bye way it has gotten considerably colder here in the last 2 hrs

That is potentially useful information though there are more detailed sources available. The big question is, what will it be like 2 days from now?

I have treated this post as a joke from the off but I have enjoyed the fact that thats what it was meant to be or I hoped it was meant to be. Driving home seemed colder than going to work this morning.

There were remnants of snow in Athy, Ireland yesterday for an international perspective...(really enjoyed the 17 hrs away from home...)
At least the 3 hrs plus of rain in Liverpool this morning has stopped and now almost clear blue skies.
Awaits the freeze later with dread, off at 3am in the morning to Midhurst for a site visit at 8am.
One pint tomorrow night down my local and i'll be asleep in the corner...

24 of us from pub off to hotel in the Trossachs for a Christmas party on Saturday staying over til Sunday - I'm actually hoping for lots of snow after we get there - I can think of worse things than being snowed in at a hotel for a few days with bunch of friends!!!
Hope they've stocked up just in case :-)

Surely its time to lock this thread now. It really is a bit of a nonsense, and although I appreciate the "lightheartedness" of the conversation, that's all it is, a conversation. There are other sources of information available to enable people to make the decision of driving or not.
And yes, I also appreciate the fact that I don't have to open the thread, but it really is getting a bit tedious having this topic at the top of a valuable forum.

If people didn't open it, it wouldn't be at the top. By the way it's snowing in Liverpool

Once again let me thank everyone for their contributions, positive and negative.
I survived my trip to Glasgow, just about - it was absolutely freezing, could barely hold my biro writing the report. Weather was clear and rainbows on the way up.
Lots of snow still on the ground especially Motherwell.
Here it is very cold, Heswall, looks like we're in for a visit from Jack tonight.

Just had an idea, I am going to make a New Years resolution to start a posting on good weather to warn everyone that the sun is shining and the weather is very warm and give ideas on how to cope with all the problems that this will cause. Who knows it may result in 60+ responses, who knows I look forward to it.

Steve, I asked the Mods to lock it ages ago but it fell on deaf ears. Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks this is nonsense!

Thats what gets me on here it's the same people who go on about if you don't want to read apost then don't open it then they ask for a post to be closed. No one should be allowed to dictate what the subject matter is as long as it is health or safety related. I don't particularly like this post but it's not for me to ask for it to be closed. If you don't like it don't open it.

By the way it's very cold now, snow forecast so wrap up well.

Ahem,
Sorry to interrupt, but we were snowed under!
As this topic refers to the snow event nearly a fortnight ago (and is getting very long), we think it is now time to put it out of it's misery. Show's over folks.
We would like to recommend the BBC or Met Office sites if you want professional forecasts.
